Sigel
Summary
Sigel is a completely lifeless rocky dwarf planet with a thick atmosphere and uninhabitable conditions near the edge of the Chantilas System. Its atmosphere, being composed of numerous dense preservatives, as strong as they are toxic, will kill most affected lifeforms. Interestingly these gases also slow the rate of decomposition, once dead, to almost nil. Suitably nicknamed "Life's Ebb" by Caspiez spacefarers, this graveyard of a planet has been a focal point of progress in the reclamation science of many long-dead animal species.Populated by a small number of scientifically oriented colonies, Sigel has long been a hot spot for researchers intrigued with its atmospheric abnormalities. Next to no trade visits the dwarf world that isn’t tied to the few thousand researcher’s work. Volumes of data are exported annually and have helped advance both terraforming and mutagenic technologies.
The research bases are favored by many doctorial students looking for an exotic locale within the Chantilas System to explore their field of study. The facility is forced to employ costly security personnel, being far too small to negotiate an Astrum outpost. Some security concerns have arisen in the past due to this often inconsistent arrangement. The fact that no major incident has yet occurred is not lost on the long-term residents of the facilities. Resident scientists count themselves lucky surrounded on all sides by potential death.
