Aquelas

Summary

To see it from space, one would think Aquelas to be devoid of life. A large, turquoise orb with no discernible land mass, it doesn't like capable of supporting a populous, much less one as large as that of the Arix that inhabit it. But it has provided them a stable, if not somewhat damp, home for over 550 years.

Aquelas was created accidentally, and at first considered to be a failed experiment. The IG-47 Terraform Engine that was meant to make the planet suitable for colonization turned the planet into a vast ocean, and forced the colonists that were placed there to live underwater.

The real attraction on Aquelas, however, is the floating resort Sobeísa, on the planet's southern hemisphere. Sobeísa caters almost exclusively to the ultra-wealthy, and is reputed to be a favorite vacation spot of the presidents of the largest corporations in the universe. The resort is host to no less than 15 five-star restaurants that serve delicacies gleaned from every major system. It is also home to the largest gambling operation outside of (casino). Its majestic arches, towers, and graceful, almost petite, design have earned it a reputation for being the most beautiful structures in the system.

Cities

Tael'Dais

Aquelas' only landmass, Tael'Dais, is a rather small island that floats directly above the planet's capital city, Sube'Dais. The two are linked by a large tubular elevator constructed of CytoSteel and a specially treated transparent mineral that resembles glass. While it would've been far simpler and less costly to simply make it out of the steel, the Arix felt that such a trafficked structure should show-off the grandeur and wealth of their civilization. Tael'Dais is home to a variety of embassies and other civic buildings that handle most of the business affairs that involve off-worlders, such as trade agreements and galactic politics.

It also houses a small number of rather luxurious hotels that cater to those visitors who wish to vacation on Aquelas but can't seem to cope with the idea of their feet being separated from the land. While these hotels pale in comparison to the Sobeísa Resort further south, they are still very popular destinations for the large amount of tourists that frequent the planet. This influx of visitors has also led to the creation of a rather large shopping district, and quite a sizable amount of tax income for the Aquellian government.

While many Arix consider Tael'Dais to be a affront to their planet's unnatural beauty, most begrudgingly recognize its importance. This hasn't stopped many of them from lobbying the government to prevent any further expansion of the island, however. Their attempts have thus far fallen on deaf ears, as the Telluric Council, Aquelas' ruling body, touts the necessity of tourism and the tax dollars it brings in.

Capella

Aquelas' only moon, Capella, is also home to the planet's only real industry: the Galladrio Shipyards.

While much of the popularity of Arix ships in the private sector is due to their aesthetically pleasing designs and ease of maintenance, a large contributor to their commercial success have been the Cytoclene Pools. These pools treat metals in a way that makes them nearly impermeable to most substances, while not damaging the molecular structure of the metal, as the competing chemical baths do. This treatment has also made the shipyards popular with the Sentek, though only a small segment of their population can afford a full body treatment.

The Galladrio Shipyards are one of the most heavily guarded locations in the galaxy, employing the services of a specially trained contingent of Black Star Group soldiers, including a full battalion of Sentek combatants some contest are un-ethically employed. The shipyards employ them to protect the virtually priceless reserves of what the Cytoclene Pools contain.
