Savin is the homeworld of the Binut and is arguably the hottest of the geneborn worlds. On the surface, temperatures can match and exceed the deserts of earth. Due to the conditions on the world, the inhabitants of the rocky world have taken their cities and moved them below the hot surface. Residents have built cities into the cooler shade of cliff sides and greater canyon walls for the past several hundred years. Their efforts have turned Savin into one of the most important worlds in the Barella System. The mineral rich world benefits from easy access to natural resources that supplement healthy knowledge-based industries.

The Binut have created industries where none existed before through creative application of genetic technologies. One of the most powerfully successful of their works has been the Genetepet, which are sold in high volume all across the universe.A genetically engineered social pet, these cute critters always seem like they are in their juvenile stage of life, although sexual maturity is attained around a year after birth. These critters combine aspects of many different Terran animals noted for their cuteness into itself; such as raccoons, cats, otters, ferrets, and other animals. Gentepets have small claws that hook easily into fabrics but rarely can they break skin. This allows them to easily hold on to your clothing while you walk, as their light bodies are easily supported by their surprising strength.
Many children take these good-tempered, quiet, and sweet creatures with them to school. Gentepets possess amazing cunning and intelligence as well, and are very trainable at any age. They have long times between breeding periods, and they also have very small, usually only one or two, offspring. Many can be trained to retrieve or plant items and return back to their trainer. In addition, the Gentepets lifespan is amazing for something its size, roughly twenty Sol Years.
Peleas
Of course, there is a much darker side to the designer pet fad. It didn't take Binut geneticists long to realize that if they could produce ultra-cute pet creatures, they could also design something of a more savage nature. And thus, the Peleas were born. There are varying classes of Peleas, but all are vicious fighting machines. Bred by various genetic engineers each Pelea is different, its genetic soup a more fantastic brew than the last - some formulas proving far more successful over time than others. Peleas designers draw their inspiration from an assortment of source animals, creating creatures that vary greatly in aesthetics but share the same killing instincts. In some ways, the search for a successful Pelea genome is more of a competition than the battles the creations themselves will take place in. This has led to designer signature series of breeds that last for generations, and have become highly prized in the underground industry.
The arena combat of the Peleas would perhaps be even more popular if the Neo-Geneva Conventions had not labeled them illegal, equating them with the cockfights and dog fighting that had occurred in past centuries on Earth. Binut designers are therefore very secretive about their work, including who purchases the finished products. Since they are already exporting their popular Genetepets en masse, it is quite simple to hide scores of Peleas amongst their more sedate cousins. The fighting has managed to maintain a large underground following, however, with many informal "schools" that specialize in training particularly fierce Peleas.
These animals have also gained some popularity as an exotic pet. While not many are willing to risk life and limb to possess such a creature, some find them invaluable attack animals. The use of the Peleas in such a way came under fire when it was discovered that the Black Star Group had established facilities in the LF Zone that sought to train and use them as weapons. It has been theorized that perhaps the large number of "accidental" deaths that have occurred in the Zone have been in some way related to this secret training program.
