Tal Narcis

Tal Narcis has ever been a primary gateway between Sol and the various star systems of the expanding human race. Built in orbit around the dwarf world of Pluto it stands as a testament to the capability of mankind.

The station is a marvel to behold, only the Sol System Lagrange Stations are larger. Much of this bulk is taken up by the massive Prometheus Breach Inducers. The inducers, massive pillars jutting up like the ribs of some gargantuan beast, enable a ship to push through the walls of a spacial slipstream. Next to these gargantuan spars the rest of the station seems small. Yet, the station proper is effectively a small city in itself.

Tal Narcis has become its own settlement in a way, home to families, companies, and a greater military presence than almost anywhere else in known space. The greater part of the Tiger Fleet calls Pluto its home and serves as a main defense for the gate itself. Alongside the official military presence, many private mercenary organizations have come onboard to police the highly active region. The Black Star Group has become a major supplier of patrol and customs services to the station and has long since moved its local base of operations to the station.

History

When proof of slipstreams, warped space-time tunnels between stars and other large bodies, was uncovered, it was heralded as the next step for humanity. A chance to travel beyond the confines of the Sol System. However, using a slipstream required a waypoint on both ends through which to send a ship. It was the Chantilas Investment Firm that first attempted to overcome this hurtle. With the backing of several like-minded corporations they set about the construction of one of the largest spaceborn objects in mankind's history. Dubbed Prometheus, after the mythological figure of old, it was hoped that like its namesake the technology might bring a new hope to humanity. The Prometheus junction would be connected to a standard station design. Known as Tal Narcis the station would become the control and command center, and would later lend its name to the other waypoint stations. This massive undertaking would span nearly five decades before its final completion.

Others were not idle during that time. A massive cargo ship was chosen to prepare the end gate. Crewed by Synteks and retrofitted with great fusion driven pulse drives it rode a fiery wave of energy towards its destination, the Chantilas System. Within its hold sat the items necessary to build a simple Prometheus Breacher at Chantilas. Upon arrival the Synteks set about construction of a small version of the Prometheus System, just powerful enough to pull through a small ship. Building of this smaller cousin at Chantilas took just five years. Upon completion a single message was sent through, "The way is set." With those words Tal Narcis became the route through which the Chantilas System was colonized. The Chantilas Waypoint expanded as small ships steadily brought in new supplies for its enhancement. Small ships became large ships, and before long colony ships as the first settlers took to this new realm. For many this was the golden age of humanity, ripe with the joy of exploration. And for these early colonists Prometheus was unto the very gates of heaven.
