History

Pre-History

The most interesting facet of Stonehenge, like its earth counterpart, is its pre-historic heritage. Ages before mankind entered the Inex System the two stars that now dance in a death-spin were further apart and the system as a whole was more peaceful.

Over the eons as Nixius was pulled by its larger neighbor star, Crost, the system fluxed. The few planets in the system were pulled and with time moons crashed into host worlds, scorching planets. Before long the planets themselves were torn asunder by the forces at play.

Left behind was a debris field of planetary wreckage, as such Stonehenge was left untouched by Inex for years before outside groups moved on the open space in the system. Today numerous colonies exist on the larger pieces of debris, and a number of orbital stations have been constructed.

Mopping-Up

The biggest hurdle to overcome for Stonehenge's development was the debris field itself. Space transit and growth would impact the small bodies in the field and rain damage and injury on human colonization efforts. Colonists had to clean up before they could safely overtake Stonehenge and maximize its potential.

Smaller rubble was mopped up with time, either fed into simple consumer engines or launched off on a death-course with one of the two stars. As things cleared in a sector developers moved in and began while the other section were similarly cleaned.

Government

The Strip

Like most places in the Inex system there is no cohesive government to bring things together or tell people how they should operate. However, for mutual growth the businesses, hotels, and residents that call Stonehenge home have adopted a common charter to levy some small taxes and create fairer trade.

These local development initiatives started as small alliances between businesses to foster cheaper development, and once the benefits were apparent to non-participating members, the partnerships grew. Today the tax code and loose legal structure that exists helps ensure merchants and interested residents alike adhere to a standardized code of fair-conduct.

When your home and work are located in the middle of a debris field it doesn't hold well to be selfish.

Culture

Intrepid Growth

Stonehenge rewards the creative individual. For those who can imagine a place amongst rubble and make something valuable there is always more promise in the range. The minds this has attracted to Stonehenge ensures the future of the growing network of colonies.

Like the success of the system's host company, Stonehenge has grown wildly in recent years.

Notable Figures

Tara Turing

This one-armed former XSRC racer owns Highball the most popular chain of bars in Stonehenge. Large groups of spectators gather in the bars as the circuit makes its rounds. Spirits, food, and new friends are brought together in the narrow bars. Tara is one of the older members of the Stonehenge community well over one hundred years old. The aged racer makes her rounds to her seven bars and brings a refreshing spirit that embodies the origins of the whole of Stonehenge.

Points of Interest

Archimedes

This oblong comet orbits the Stonehenge field, likely trapped some time ago when the planets shifted and broke. It has been left in orbit for its predictable and enjoyable scenery for visitors. Its orbital circuit is visible in some fashion at almost any time from within Stonehenge. While the comet's path has been altered so that it no longer goes near the cannibal stars Archimedes is sometimes seeded to provide a more compelling visual.
