Zunubian Desert Rally

Based on the scorching sands of Savin, the Zunubian Desert Rally is a popular race in the Xifor Series Racing Circuit (XSR Circuit). Unlike many of the other races XSR Circuit, this race is a rally so there is no track or course to stay on. Whichever team is the first to race from the start to the finish is crowned the winner, so the teams can take any route they please.

The race spans the entire distance of the more than 25,000 km Zunubian Desert. Because of the distance, the rally actually spans 2 days with a layover in the Belmont Oasis Colony. All competitors are required to take at least an 8 hour break in Belmont. Most drivers use the time to get some sleep and/or repairs.

Dangers of Rally Racing

Rules of rally racing are far less enforced than track races in the XSR Circuit. The clouds of sand generated by the racing teams as they blaze across the dunes conceal intense battles between the drivers. Fans often patch into driver-cams or other cam-bots to experience the violence from a first-hand perspective. Watching the drivers ram each other, often accompanied by use of other illegal modifications to their vehicles, increases the fatality rate significantly. In fact, every team has at least 2-3 back-up drivers and vehicles per team.
