The Ucual Corporation was the primary backer behind the efforts for expansion into the self-named Ucual System.

Corporate Scandal & Death

Though much controversy surrounds who pushed the company to act in such a self-destructive manner there is little doubt over what transpired after the decision to move to a new system was made. After successfully reaching the new system, the company lied. Plain and simple Ucual stated that all transmissions had been lost and that the ships had been lost in slipstream.

They even managed to forge the necessary evidence to convince people that the colonization efforts, comprised primarily of Syntek and corporate volunteers, failed.

Lies

However their expedition hadn't failed. The entry into the new system went off without a hitch, and despite the fact that the group ran on limited resources they managed to succeed in setting up and growing a base of power for growth.

The reason for the lies were simple, competitive advantage. The Ucual Corporation desired to involve themselves in cutting-edge research, but they were continually losing out to outside firms that were more flexible and less ingrained in other markets. That ethic breach from traditional research institute to the realm of illegality must have been hard to push down on so many parties, but could also explain the limited size of the expedition.

Dissolution

After years of genetic manipulation and abuses, which lead to the creation of the Phirrus, and several other less noteworthy advances that they sent back the holiday came to an end. Within a short period of time Astrum positioned itself to investigate the matter and the company shook with fear from the top-down.

Hastily working to cover-up and escape the situation many upper-level managers are still on the lam today.
