MakeMake has become well known as a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the inner worlds. This and a lack of heavy industry has made it a popular destination for weary travelers seeking a place to relax. Slow is an understatement of the way of life for a colony that only completes an orbit around the sun once every 310 years. Visitors are treated to as relaxed an atmosphere available on any colony.

The few cities on the outpost are full of resorts, health retreats, and spas. Viewed in the same light as oceanic nations in old world Earth, MakeMake is a bastion of upscale civilization on the fringes of space. Being near the Tal-Narcis Gateway has helped the colony grow with a steady stream of traffic from outside the system. There is no off-season for the retreat as exists with on-world resorts and the companies of Makemake have adopted strategies for targeting specific customer bases on the basis of their world and its seasonal fluxes.

MakeMake has colony-wide contracts with numerous security forces, recognizing that relying on Astrum alone is not enough to meet the needs of the region. Strangely enough some of the very security forces used are the same ones owned partially or in whole by organized crime in the system. Somehow the arrangement continues to work and MakeMake enjoys relatively low crime rates.
