Summary
In an age where humanity is almost entirely wired to the Grid, there is no such thing as going too far. Despite that, Ambrose likes to claim that he suffers from Grid addiction. His early years were spent trawling the universal repository of information, on a level deeper than most of his peers, and when the time came for him to choose his field of study, his choice was obvious.A self-confessed introvert, Ambrose is a creature of the mind. Apart from his ReGrid interests, he has fledgling psionic powers that he has only lately decided to pour effort into developing.
Appearance
On the surface, Ambrose is quite an ordinary person with no exceptional features. His hair, usually kept short, is a rich chocolate brown. His eyes are of a darker hue, almost black, and are an excellent indicator of where his mind is. When fully attentive they can be piercingly sharp, but most of the time they possess a slightly glazed look as he thinks about some issue removed from the present. This air of detachment combines somewhat awkwardly with his relatively youthful face, and others often get the mistaken impression that he needs help finding his way somewhere.Birthplace
Ambrose spent nearly half his life in his birthplace within one of the cities linked to the Peary Rift on Luna.Family
In his formative years, Ambrose was blessed with the presence and support of a fully functional traditional family unit. His only regret was that he had no other siblings. However, when Ambrose left for Earth to pursue further education, his parents mysteriously vanished, never to be heard from again. The only link Ambrose has is a single digital folder given to him by his mother before their parting at the Peary Rift shuttle bay. He has spent years looking for them, to no avail.
Flaws
If asked about his greatest flaw, Ambrose is likely to cite his curiosity. In all his 32 years of life, that particular trait has been both a blessing and a curse. While it set him on the path of proficiency in ReGrid and benefited him in a myriad of other ways, there were also many occasions where he would have done better to leave things well enough alone.Occupation
For the most part, Ambrose makes a living by selling his services in almost anything related to the Grid. Thanks to his extensive expertise in matters Grid-related, Ambrose is able to offer his know-how in virtually every area, whether it involves coding a virtual world or building semi-sentient programmes. Although his income is not consistent, he makes enough to get by comfortably and to fuel his insatiable curiosity.Education
Surprisingly, Ambrose's only noteworthy qualification is his Bachelor's Degree in ReGrid, which he received with honours. Upon graduating, he continued with what he had been doing since his third year in university - selling his Grid expertise.Interests
Apart from all things virtual, Ambrose has a great interest in traveling around the galaxy. A large portion of his time is spent pursuing works, whether fictional or otherwise, involving space travel. Also Ambrose has only recently become mildly obsessed with psionics. He discovered his potential when he was still studying in university, but only felt the compulsion to develop his ability in the past few years.
Goals
In line with his romantic notion of space travel, Ambrose hopes to one day experience life serving on a ship. For the moment, he is uncertain as to whether he would prefer a military or civilian vessel. He has, however, started taking flying lessons (with a civilian agency that caters to flying for leisure) with the faint intention of one day owning his own private craft.Fears
Although Ambrose has been out of contact with his parents for almost half his life and has learnt to deal with their absence, he still harbours a wisp of hope that he will eventually find out what happened to them. His own investigations into the matter have thrown up leads that led mostly to dead ends, but a few have pointed him in directions that make him reluctant to follow them to their source. The implications at this juncture are enough to blunt the edge of his usually insatiable curiosity. His greatest fear, then, is finding out what the truth behind their disappearance might be.
