Summary

Jack was a single child born in an upper middle class family on Luna. Her father was an ENT surgeon and her mother was a physicist. Jack developed an early love of science and medicine, showing an aptitude for both at a very young age.

To foster her skills further, she was enrolled at the prestigious Sister of Mercy girl’s boarding school, where she excelled at math, science and psychology. She graduated with honors and went on to complete two PHDs in record time in the areas of genetics and microbiology.

However after university Jack floundered, failing to find direction in her life and ultimately settled for a career in virology. Her talents are largely wasted here and she spends her free time creating designer viruses and watching B-grade horror movies.

Flaws

When it comes to weapons and self defense, Jack couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn if she was standing inside it. She has the delicate motor skills to wield a scalpel with godly precision, but despite an expert knowledge of human biology, she’s only really capable of defending herself against people who are either unconscious or strapped down to an operating table.

Or children. Very small children.

While Jack comes across as mild and, some mistakenly think, meek, she’s not averse to violence or blood and gore. She remains calm and in control in even the most catastrophic of situations...

Unless of course there is a man in the room, in which case Jack can scarcely function beyond blushing, mumbling and taking an unhealthy interest in her own shoes.

Prolonged exposure and necessity can, eventually, overcome this problem to a small degree. In university Jack was able to hold intelligent theological debates with her older, fatter, balder male professors. However she never did work up the nerve to make eye contact with the cute guy in the coffee shop.

Children present Jack with no problems and in instances of extreme anger or intense dislike Jack has overcome any sense of shyness. However it’s not easy to drive Jack to such extremes—even then she’s more likely to avoid confrontation and find some other method for dealing with the situation.

Jack has no problems communicating with men in written correspondence and can carry on a normal, if subdued phone conversation under most circumstances. Jack interacts with other women and non humanoids without any apparent shyness.
