The first thing Schadoe noticed upon waking from her weeklong slumber was that of complete silence save for the ever constant hum of the ship she currently resided on: The Everstar. Silence was never a good thing. Opening dark blue eyes to glance about her cabin, her movements triggered the light sensors to start illuminating the area. Slowly sitting up, the Caspiez moved each joint in turn, working the stiffness of a lengthy dormant state out before standing. She grabbed her watch from the nearby shelf and looked at the time before placing it in its customary place on her right wrist, the Grid-linked face on the underside of her wrist. It was the third meal time and far too quiet to be proper. Had they docked while she had slept?

Pulling on her boots and lacing them, she took a moment to duck her head out the entry of her cabin. There was no one in sight and not a sound of anyone either. They had to have docked and no one had bothered to tell her so. It had happened before and probably would do so again. That being said, she had an opportunity to see what lay before her. Ducking back inside her cabin, she deftly took down her net-like suspension bed and rolled it to fit in a pocket of her pack. From there, she put on her jacket, straightened her long dark hair, then grabbed her tool belt and pack and headed out into the corridor.

As she headed down the corridor, buckling her tool belt in its place, toward the dining area of the ship, she heard the first signs of life in the form of heated voices, reactively slowing her step and moving closer to the wall. She had watched many scuffles in her travels and avoided including herself as much as she possibly could, though this one sounded like she would be lucky to avoid. Stepping up to the doorway as quietly as possible, she briefly thought that she should have turned the other way and gotten off the ship in another manner, but shrugged the thought away as she attempted a peek through the open doorway. If she counted correctly, there were six crewmembers surrounded by five armed pirates by the looks of their attire. Why did it have to be pirates?

Ducking back out of view and keeping close to the wall, she quickly dug for a solution on how to help. She had not seen the captain and so decided the bridge was a possible solution. Maybe the captain would have an answer, because she hadn‘t the skills or weapons to face the pirates on her own. After moving away from the dining area, she sprinted to hopefully make the bridge without notice. Several moments later, she slowed to quiet footsteps to sneak up to the doorway. She was just about to peek through the doorway when it hissed open and a tall, rugged man stood before her. She stepped backwards as she realized that he was not part of the crew.

“Well, what do we have here?” the man inquired with a grin as he stepped forward to counter Schadoe’s step backward, hand on a stun pistol that was quickly rising to the same level as her face.

“I gotta go,” she said quickly, ducking and sliding to her left, hoping to run off down the corridor. She heard the pistol go off and deafen her right ear for the moment from the closeness of the discharge, causing a stagger in her step where she nearly collided with the wall from her temporary imbalance. Hearing cussing behind her, she did not bother to glance as she took off down the corridor, going over the ship’s access routes in her head for a possible escape or hiding place. She really did not want to fight right now. Being handy at nearly anything, she often knew her way throughout the ships she helped out on. She had been on The Everstar nearly a month now. Her next rest stop was going to be Aquelas and either jumping to another ship or searching for ancient trinkets for a while.

Hearing shouting up ahead of her, she knew that she had to hide quickly. There were more scattered throughout the ship. It was a wonder that they had not found her before she had woken from her dormant state. A brief thought of how long they may have been on The Everstar crossed her mind as she skidded around a corner into a service dumbwaiter. Hurriedly shutting the sliding door, she lifted herself up to the next level in hopes that it was bare of pirate lurkers.

Hidy all!

I already posted to the roll call thread, but I'm posting here to see if anyone can give me any idears to how I should get rolling. I have a character idea in my head that I'm working on getting into the form to submit her. Seeing as this place is somewhat coming back to life, is there anyone that has a ship or crew or someone for my character to interact with? Tons of solo posts are easy for me to do, but interaction with others is much more fun...

A world for new beginnings, or is it? For Lenna it was much different. Her ears were ringing from the drugs used on her body. Everything was a conglomerate of white and blinding light. It was hard to tell what was a wall or white or radiant light. Her knees were bound as were her arms. She closed her eyes and struggled against shock resistant bindings. Her legs were strong which was why the had shock resistant bracers.
Her memory was sporadic. She was on a ship to a moon. Was it a moon? There were pyramids, no that's silly. Wasn't it?

"Leave me alone." she mumbled.

She wondered if that was even her own voice as she used her other senses to determine her surroundings.

Beep....Beep....Beep....

Heart monitor?

She moved her legs and arms to feel that most of the equipment was around her knees. Moving her wrists she realized the restraints were loose. The Phirrus moved her head to one side then the other as a gas was let in the container she was in. She looked for a place she could breath but it was hopeless. Opening her eyes she found that her vision was clearing. In front of her stood Arix in a lab coat alongside a Binut who was also in a lab coat. Her eyes narrowed.

"Why am I in here?" she glared.
"More splicing." the Binut replied. "Obviously."
"Obviously, were is the rest of the crew?"
"Smart girl. We're testing on them as well." the Arix chimed proudly.
"So what was that?" she asked.
"Nanotechnology we're going to see to what effects it has with minipulation." the Binut flashed her a smile.
"That's not splicing...." Lenna commented.
"No, but it's still fun." the Arix replied.

Lenna watched the Binut.

"There's more." Lenna knew something was up and if she could pit the two against each other, she might get away.
"No." The Binut smiled.
"Oh come on....There's always more. What's the point of manipulating someone if you can already hold them down for your experiments."
"I like to torturer people." the Binut replied with hostility in his voice.
"Oh, you get off on it ey? So why the manipulations when it could be for real?" Lenna asked. "Is there something you're hiding from your lab partner? Checking the effects on other races before trying one on him. Saving him for last when he's done helping you-"

He flipped a switch.

"Bastard cut me off." Lenna watched what looked like some sort of argument between the two of them. "Oh, no, that's good." she looked up at her restrants and turned he wrists in them. "Loose come on."

She moved against it vigerously feeling the material give every time until she was able to slip out, but she didn't. She watched them, and saw the Binut storm out of the room. The scaly scientist flipped the switch.

"Well, thanks for that, but that won't get you any special treatment."
"So what's the plan?" Lenna asked.
"What?"
"You know.....The plan were you get rid of him and take the glory and money for youself, or whatever it is you're doing."

The Arix scoffed at her. Lenna frowned a bit.

"It's not as bad as you think girly." he laughed.
"Really? Him, taking over your brain. How is that not bad?"
"He's not going to take over my brain."
"Oh please," Lenna rolled her eyes. "You're blind."
"It's for the slave trade."he corrected.
"What?"
"Selling of races to others. Sexual slave trade, working slave trade, military personal slave trade. It's nice when you can force someone to make you look good. Talking you up for anything, and no one has to know about it." he smiled.
"I'll come back and check to see how those nanites are doing." with that he turned and left the room.
"Aw, crap...." Lenna looked around.

How do I even begin to get out of here?

You know that project you did in grade school were you put something in a time capsule to never see again. (Seriously I doubt my teachers buried that thing. You know they're all up in the teacher's lounge figuring out what to pawn off at a pawn shop)

I never got to have that feeling of finding a time capsule. I always see ridiculous faces people have when they found theirs.

And now I believe I have made that ridiculous face, so OH MY GOD A TIME CAPSULE. Stuff like this turns back the clock and breathes new air into your lungs.

And this is my ridiculous face :o and then I made this face  all the while doing this  to my computer screen. This is Lenna and I'm a happy person once more. Piece of teenage life recaptured. Adult life getting more interesting.

This goes out to all active users,

In an attempt to get things here up and going again I would like to institute a roll call system. I'm not trying to be some Nazi dictator, I don't have NEARLY the authority, I'm just trying to figure out who is active and who isn't.

That is step one, but step two is much more important. The active users here need to reach out to their friends, potentially family, but more importantly the inactive users that we actives had contact with before things went the way of the dinosaurs around here. If we can reunite with our former co-authors and get them writing again, and see if they'll reach out to their former fellows we might stand a chance at getting things back and running again. Also, I would like to propose an independent twitter and facebook page for the site in the hopes of bringing in a few more people.

No, development isn't happening right now but if we can get enough people back here, encourage the devs to sell some adspace on the page (I know there's some already but we can easily tolerate more) then there might, I mean MIGHT be a chance at a revival here.

So, what do you say SBH? Are you with me?

Anyone still active please comment with either an "I'm in." or "I'm out". If you're 'in', then you're willing to message your inactive friends on here to help the cause, if you're 'out', all the best to you and you either want to write in piece or let things die.

Regards,

Josh

P.S.

Please email me @ joshua.j.taylor@hotmail.ca to confirm your participation. If we exchange email addresses (those comfortable with this) we may be able to stay active with mutual support for longer than by our own memory and reminders.
